Mr Gerard Kiely is an experienced product design engineer from Carrigaline in Co. Cork, Ireland. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Product Design and Technology from the University of Limerick, Ireland and a Specialist Diploma in Medical Device Science from the National University of Ireland, Galway, Ireland. Mr Kiely has 6 years’ industrial experience ranging from initial product conceptualisation work through to manufacturing.
Mr Kiely’s previous industrial experience was based in product development and design in the medical device and agricultural product sectors. Prior to joining the OrthoXel Team, Mr Kiely has previously worked in Stryker Orthopaedics, Merck Millipore, Dairymaster, Radisens Diagnostics. These roles were mainly design, product development and quality focused.
In 2011, he joined biotechnology company Merck Millipore in Cork working as part of a large team in the quality department as a Quality Engineer. In 2012, Mr Kiely moved to Kerry to join the product development team in Dairymaster an agricultural product development company. Here he built up experience in the product development and manufacturing areas (CNC machining, metal fabrication and 3D printing), working on various projects based around the companies milking parlours. In late 2012 he transferred to Radisens Diagnostics in Cork, a start-up medical device diagnostics company where he worked as a Design Engineer. Here he gained experience in product design and development within the medical device sector. Working as part of a small multidisciplinary team on various projects and platform designs.
Mr Kiely joined OrthoXel in 2016 and his latest role is that of a Concept Development Engineer working on the development of an intramedullary nail for the femur.
