Prof. Harty has been a practicing orthopedic surgeon for over 17 years and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Prof. Harty currently serves as Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics at Cork University Hospital and on the faculty of the Department of Surgery in University College Cork. He also sits on the board of the Irish Institute of Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery (IITOS).
Prior to establishing his current practice, Prof. Harty had fellowship posts in sports knee surgery (University Hospital Bristol, UK) and arthroscopy (London Health Sciences Centre, Ontario, Canada). He also earned an MSc in Applied Biomechanics from Strathclyde University Glasgow and is a graduate of University College Cork Medical School.
Prof. Harty’s engagement with the development program began when he approached the design team in Cork Institute of Technology’s MEDIC centre regarding current challenges in tibial nailing. His contributions have included co-authoring the body of peer-reviewed literature on the background technology and carrying out the cadaver and preclinical surgical procedures.
